Aging's Price Tag

About this Session:

The threat of Medicare insolvency is always lurking in the not so distant future, creating an urgent need to address how society will deliver and pay for care for an aging population where 10,000 people turn 65 daily. The situation is further complicated by the rising costs of healthcare, including expensive drugs for conditions like Alzheimer's and the growing demand for GLP-1 coverage, some of which may not have clear benefits. Additionally, disparities in care access and outcomes persist, with lower-income seniors and minorities more likely to face disabilities, die younger, and report difficulties in accessing care despite Medicare coverage. These issues collectively call to question the sustainability of current healthcare financing models, the role of value-based care, and the potential need for reforms in programs like Medicare Advantage to ensure equitable, affordable care for all seniors now and for future generations.
