Last mile: Localising access for underserved areas

Speakers:

About this Session:

For healthcare provision, the map of the haves and the have-nots, is often distressingly simple to draw. Rural and underserved communities exist in every health ecosystem.Their characteristics, in terms of location and often socio-economic context, are so standardised across said ecosystems. A local problem, played out across the globe. In these regions, the lack of accessible medical services poses significant hurdles, with infrastructural limitations, sparse facilities, and transportation difficulties creating formidable barriers. Add those to insufficient medical personnel and often inadequate health education, and you have the perfect systemic set of issues. What can be done to bolster health infrastructure, improve transportation networks, and address the workforce issues? The journey to tackle the last healthcare mile is an urgent call to address these systemic issues and ensure that quality healthcare becomes a reality for all, regardless of geography.
