Australian Startup Heidi Health Secures $17M Series A Funding to Expand AI Scribe Capabilities

Heidi Health, a Melbourne-based startup formerly known as Oscer, has secured an additional $16.6 million in Series A funding to enhance its AI-powered clinical productivity tools. The latest investment round was led by Headline, with participation from Local Globe, Anthology (Menlo Ventures and Anthropic), and existing investors Blackbird, HESTA, Possible Ventures, and Archangel Ventures.

The company, which rebranded in 2024, has developed a customizable AI tool that automates administrative tasks in healthcare settings. Their AI scribe technology has proven versatile, functioning effectively not only in primary care but also in emergency departments and surgical theaters.

According to Heidi Health, the fresh capital will be directed toward expanding their AI capabilities beyond basic scribing functions. Planned enhancements include pre-chart summary creation, access to clinical guidelines, and new features that will allow healthcare providers to engage with patients outside the clinical setting.

This latest funding round builds upon the A$10 million ($6.5 million) Series A investment Heidi secured in November 2023, which supported the initial launch of their AI scribe in February 2024. Since that launch, the company has experienced remarkable growth.

"In just one year, they're already facilitating one million consultations weekly across five countries, which far outstrips other AI scribe offerings," said Taylor Brandt, a partner at Headline, one of Heidi's newest investors.

A key factor in Heidi's rapid adoption has been its commitment to regulatory compliance. The company's AI scribe is fully compliant with region-specific privacy and data security regulations, making it an attractive solution for major healthcare providers across multiple countries.

Among the notable organizations implementing Heidi's technology are Modality Partnership in the United Kingdom, Beth Israel in Massachusetts, United States, ForHealth in Australia, and Tamaki Health in New Zealand. Additionally, Telstra Health has incorporated Heidi's AI technology into its newly launched clinical documentation tool, Telstra Scribe, which is available on MedicalDirector.

This expansion represents a significant step forward in the integration of AI technology within healthcare systems globally, potentially reducing administrative burdens on healthcare professionals and allowing them to focus more attention on patient care.
