Teladoc Health Partners with Eli Lilly to Offer GLP-1 Self-Pay Option for Weight Management

Teladoc Health, a leader in virtual care, has announced a strategic partnership with Gifthealth, a digital pharmacy platform and partner in Eli Lilly's LillyDirect program. The collaboration aims to improve access to ZepboundĀ® (tirzepatide), an FDA-approved medication for weight management, for eligible members enrolled in Teladoc's Comprehensive Weight Care Program.

Tirzepatide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, has demonstrated significant efficacy in clinical trials for weight loss. However, many individuals face challenges accessing this medication due to insurance coverage limitations or prohibitive costs. The new partnership addresses these barriers by creating a more streamlined pathway to treatment.

Through this arrangement, eligible Teladoc Health members who receive a tirzepatide prescription from their Teladoc provider can have single-use vials delivered directly to their homes via Gifthealth. This direct-to-home delivery model eliminates the need for pharmacy visits and simplifies the medication access process.

Beyond medication access, Teladoc Health's Comprehensive Weight Care Program offers a holistic approach to weight management that includes several integrated components:

  • Multi-disciplinary care from licensed clinicians with expertise in obesity medicine, registered dietitians, and health coaches

  • Personalized support tailored to each member's weight loss goals

  • Connected devices integration with digital scales and other health monitoring tools

  • Lifestyle coaching focused on nutrition, exercise, and behavior change

  • Mental health support to address psychological factors related to weight management

The partnership reflects a growing trend in healthcare toward providing more accessible pathways to newer weight management medications, particularly as demand for GLP-1 medications continues to increase amid supply challenges and varying insurance coverage.

"At Teladoc Health, we are dedicated to expanding access to clinically responsible, evidence-based care," said Kelly Bliss, President, U.S. Group Health at Teladoc Health. "We provide the integrated support necessary for patient safety and sustainable health outcomes. By integrating with LillyDirect, we are reducing barriers to high-quality care and helping our members afford transformative FDA-approved treatments while avoiding the potential risks of compounded medications recently offered by others."

This collaboration stands out in the telehealth weight management landscape by combining Teladoc's comprehensive clinical approach with direct access to an FDA-approved GLP-1 medication, potentially creating a more seamless experience for patients seeking evidence-based weight management solutions.
