Tempus AI, Inc., a technology company at the forefront of applying AI to precision medicine and patient care, has launched Notetaker, an AI-powered clinical assistant designed to support psychiatrists in generating progress notes. Integrated into the Tempus Hub platform, Notetaker ambiently records patient sessions to produce transcripts and clinical notes, which can be stored directly in patients’ electronic health records. This tool enhances Tempus’ existing mental health platform, which also includes the Tempus nP pharmacogenomic test and PRO™, the company’s patient-reported outcome solution, all aimed at helping clinicians deliver more personalized care.
Notetaker offers several advanced features to streamline psychiatric documentation. It records and transcribes sessions in real time, accurately capturing key details, including complex psychiatric terminology and medication names. After each session, it automatically generates a clinical note summarizing symptoms, patient progress, and next steps, which clinicians can further refine using the Magic Edit feature to customize formatting or content as needed. In addition, Notetaker helps close care gaps by offering real-time pharmacogenomic insights related to medications under consideration, ensuring treatment decisions are more informed and precise.
Dr. Muneer Ali, Senior Director of Medical Affairs for Neurology and Psychiatry at Tempus, emphasized the tool’s clinician-centered design, stating that Notetaker was developed to ease the documentation burden and give providers more time to focus on patient care. Built with versatility in mind, Notetaker supports over 30 languages, including English, Spanish, and Chinese, and can automatically recognize when speakers switch languages during a session. Its customizable settings are suited for various environments such as telehealth, in-person consultations, and dictation, ensuring high-quality audio capture in all use cases.
Although providers are responsible for obtaining appropriate patient consent before recording, Notetaker is built with privacy and compliance in mind, supporting HIPAA-compliant data transfer and secure storage. With its combination of AI-driven transcription, clinical insight integration, and flexibility across care settings, Notetaker represents a significant advancement in digital tools for mental health professionals.
