Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company (MCCPDC) has formed a strategic partnership with specialty pharmaceutical distributor Morris & Dickson to improve access to injectable medications and streamline procurement processes. The collaboration aims to ensure a steady supply of rare injectable drugs while making them more affordable for healthcare providers.
MCCPDC operates by offering consumers a range of low-cost prescription and over-the-counter medications through National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) accredited suppliers. Its Cost Plus Marketplace platform extends this model to hospitals, clinics, surgery centers, university health networks, and pharmacies, providing them direct access to medications at reduced prices.
The partnership combines Cost Plus Drug's business approach, which focuses on transparency and affordability, with Morris & Dickson's distribution capabilities. This collaboration specifically targets the mitigation of drug shortages by securing reliable supplies of injectable medications for acute care providers. The companies are also working to reduce pricing barriers for healthcare organizations of all sizes while offering flexible purchasing options without volume commitments.
"This partnership reshapes the supply chain for injectable medications," Mark Cuban, cofounder of Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, said in a statement. "Together, we are not just filling gaps, we're creating a more transparent, efficient, and patient-centered system." Jody Hatcher, CEO of Morris & Dickson, emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership. "This is about more than distribution, it's about transforming lives and putting pharmacies and patients first," Hatcher said in a statement.
The Morris & Dickson agreement adds to MCCPDC's growing list of strategic partnerships. In 2024, the company collaborated with eNavvi, an online pharmacy founded by physicians, allowing doctors to prescribe medications directly via eNavvi's digital prescription pad to over 7,000 independent and grocery chain pharmacies. This followed a 2023 partnership between the two organizations focused on prescription-cost transparency.
Additional MCCPDC partnerships formed in 2023 include collaborations with Wheel, Talkspace, and Health Gorilla to expand medication access. The company also partnered with PharmcoRx Pharmacy to implement the Team Cuban Card program, giving patients at PharmcoRx locations access to medications at MCCPDC prices.
MCCPDC further extended its reach through a partnership with Expion Health, integrating its pricing structure into Expion's product suite to reduce specialty drug costs. The company also collaborated with elderly care coordination platform Avanlee Care, incorporating MCCPDC's offerings into the Ava app to provide affordable medications to caregivers and seniors.
