Ontada Harnesses Microsoft Azure AI to Revolutionize Oncology Data

Ontada, part of McKesson and focused on oncology real-world data, has partnered with Microsoft to integrate Azure AI into cancer care innovation.

By using Azure OpenAI Service, the collaboration aims to efficiently analyze vast amounts of unstructured oncology data, unlocking insights that can improve patient care.

One of healthcare's biggest challenges is the large volume of unstructured data—about 80% of all health information—such as clinical notes, lab results, and medical images. This data is often difficult to process, leaving nearly 97% of it unused.

Ontada is addressing this issue by using Large Language Models (LLMs) to extract critical information from unstructured oncology data. With Microsoft’s help and Azure OpenAI Service, they will be able to process over 150 million oncology-related documents.

Ontada is focused on improving data accuracy by enhancing the precision and reliability of extracted information, which leads to more trustworthy real-world evidence. The company also aims to gain deeper insights into patient journeys, offering a more comprehensive understanding of each stage from diagnosis to treatment. Additionally, the initiative supports better quality data for research, clinical trials, and treatment decision-making. This effort is powered by Ontada's ON.Genuity™ platform, which combines advanced AI with a unified data model.

This initiative will strengthen Ontada’s ON.Genuity™ platform, which leverages advanced AI and a unified data model to generate real-world data from its iKnowMed EHR system, enhancing its ability to drive impactful improvements in cancer care.

By integrating Azure AI, Ontada aims to accelerate the development of new cancer treatments, provide clinicians with more accurate and comprehensive data to inform their decisions, and ultimately contribute to better outcomes for cancer patients.
