WellSky, a global provider of health and community care technology, has launched WellSky Extract for Home Health, an AI-powered tool designed to extract key information from patient documents and drug label images. This tool populates electronic health records (EHR), reducing manual documentation time, ensuring accurate medication transfers, and enhancing both patient and clinician experiences. On average, home health patients take 13 medications, and manual data entry for each medication takes about 1.5 minutes, totaling nearly 20 minutes for medication reconciliation. However, early users of WellSky Extract complete this process in just 8 minutes, saving 60% of the time compared to the industry average.
“WellSky Extract has been a game-changer for our clinicians,” said Haley Brown, Vice President of Clinical Services at Concierge Home Care, an early adopter. “The technology has significantly increased the time our clinicians spend caring for patients instead of entering data manually.”
Integrated into the OASIS workflow of WellSky Home Health EHR, WellSky Extract uses AI to analyze medication data from referral documents, handwritten lists, and photos of medication labels, populating the EHR with this information for manual review. Powered by Google’s Vertex AI platform and Gemini models, the tool significantly reduces the need for manual data entry, allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care. WellSky Extract is the first of many AI-powered SkySense tools designed to enhance operational and clinician efficiency, with upcoming tools like WellSky Scribe and WellSky Summarize in development.
“WellSky is developing innovative AI solutions to address healthcare challenges,” said Wes Little, WellSky Chief Analytics Officer. “With clinician burnout contributing to home health staffing shortages, tools like WellSky Extract help streamline administrative tasks, alleviating after-hours work and improving job satisfaction.”
