Ypsomed and Sidekick Health Launch a Collaborative Digital Health Solution for Obesity Management

Ypsomed, a Swiss-based medical device manufacturer, has partnered with digital therapeutics company Sidekick Health to launch a connected health platform aimed at transforming obesity care. The collaboration integrates Ypsomed’s SmartPilot, a sensor-enabled add-on for YpsoMate autoinjectors, with Sidekick’s app-based patient support program to deliver real-time injection data and behavioral health support to patients using GLP-1 therapies.

The joint solution captures key adherence metrics such as injection timing, duration, and accuracy, while simultaneously offering personalized education, lifestyle coaching, and medication guidance. The platform is designed to support patients through complex treatment regimens and improve long-term health outcomes.

"Obesity is a chronic, multifaceted condition that demands more than medication alone," said Ulrike Bauer, Chief Business Officer of Ypsomed Delivery Systems. "By combining our smart injection technology with Sidekick’s digital health expertise, we’re providing patients and pharma partners with actionable data and meaningful support."

Sidekick’s app complements the SmartPilot device by offering targeted resources for symptom tracking, stress and sleep management, physical activity coaching, and nutrition education. The platform also includes step-by-step injection guidance and reminders to help patients adhere to medication schedules.

GLP-1 therapies, widely recognized for their efficacy in driving weight loss and reducing cardiometabolic risk, often fall short of their full potential due to adherence challenges. The Ypsomed–Sidekick solution aims to close that gap.

The collaboration also offers pharmaceutical companies a scalable digital infrastructure to enhance therapy management and generate high-quality real-world data. Ypsomed’s SmartPilot devices stream adherence data back to partners, supporting both clinical optimization and patient experience initiatives.

Ypsomed and Sidekick enter the growing digital obesity management space alongside other health tech innovators targeting the GLP-1 market. As demand for weight management solutions increases, the need for intelligent, connected care models continues to gain momentum.
