Dr. Michelle Stephens
Dr. Michelle Stephens
Dr. Michelle Stephens
CoFounder and Chief Nursing Officer @ Oath Care

Dr. Michelle Stephens, PhD, CPNP, RN is cofounder and chief nursing officer of Oath Care. Oath is a social platform delivering a healthcare experience anchored in relationships. Each member is matched with intimate community and a world-class medical team to provide comprehensive support through an entirely new kind of care. Oath’s goal is to guide everyone – not just mom –  through the motherhood journey, from fertility to pediatrics. Dr. Stephens’ early childhood stress research and her extensive pediatric clinical experience fundamentally informs how Oath is built. Stress experienced in early childhood is ubiquitous and has lifelong impacts on health and well-being but our current healthcare and medical education systems fall terribly short of addressing it. Knowing that the single most well understood antidote to childhood stress is for parents to be positive, consistent caregivers in their child’s life, Oath is using the lever of community to meaningfully improve health outcomes for the next generation and beyond. Michelle earned her undergraduate nursing degree from Georgetown University and completed her master’s degree as a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) at The Johns Hopkins University. As a Robert Wood Johnson Future of Nursing Scholar at The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), she investigated how stress affects a young child’s autonomic nervous system (ANS) reactivity. After defending her PhD dissertation, Dr. Stephens began investigating mother-child dyad stress reactivity given a stress reduction intervention but left academia altogether to fully pursue building Oath Care to reimagine the way we deliver maternal and child healthcare. She currently lives in San Francisco with her loving family. Beyond Oath, she trains as a CrossFit athlete and enjoys building community with her church and kids’ school.
