Lloyd H. Dean is a nationally recognized leader within and beyond the field of health care. As CEO of CommonSpirit Health, a $29 billion nonprofit health system with 137 hospitals and 700 care sites in 21 states, Lloyd is focused on creating healthier communities and transforming health care delivery for millions of Americans. He has dedicated his career to eliminating the social disparities that are the root problems behind so many health issues. As CEO, Lloyd sets the strategic direction for CommonSpirit Health, inspiring the 150,000 employees and 25,000 physicians and advanced practice clinicians, who help people lead healthier lives. An advocate of collaboration and innovative partnerships, Lloyd leverages CommonSpirit’s diverse resources to address the social determinants of health and build health equity for all. Lloyd previously served as president and CEO of Dignity Health where he transformed the health system from a holding company into a leading national health enterprise. Lloyd is co-chair of the California Future Health Workforce Commission with UC President Janet Napolitano. He was also appointed by California Governor Gavin Newsom to the Future of Work Commission, the aim of which is to create long-term economic growth. Lloyd is also board chair of the San Francisco Committee on Jobs Board of Directors and serves on the American Heart Association CEO Roundtable and the Health Affairs Council on Health Care Spending and Value. Lloyd holds a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Western Michigan University.
