Mike is passionate about improving healthcare using digital, data, and analytics technology and agile ways of working. At GSK, Mike heads the R&D Tech organization which helps drive insights from R&D data and enables R&D productivity including shortening cycle times and increasing the probability of success of new medicines and vaccines. The R&D Tech portfolio of applications enables target ID, human genetics, functional genomics, CMC, Phase I-IV clinical development, advanced analytics and data science as well as R&D functions that enable marketed products including quality, safety, medical, and regulatory. He leads the overall Tech strategy for R&D with focus on increasing productivity, data integrity, and compliance. He is also responsible for the interoperability of data across R&D, which is powered by the R&D information platform. The architecture connects computing at the edge in labs throughout the US, UK, Europe, external collaborations, and leverages a multi cloud environment. Mike sponsors several areas of the overall Tech transformation at GSK including a shift to a product-centric organization, strategic partnerships with tech companies, and is passionate about improving culture, leadership, and inclusion and diversity. Prior to GSK, Mike was CIO of Quintiles which is now IQVIA and was accountable for the tech platforms used to enable clinical trials in over 100 countries. He was responsible for developing the R&D technology strategy after the merger with IMS and Quintiles, led the product teams that built out the next generation of clinical development data and analytics capabilities, virtual trials platforms, and supported several tech acquisitions. Mike worked at Shire pharmaceuticals for several years in IT leadership roles and also built his foundational knowledge in biopharmaceuticals and technology over 12 years as management consultant at Accenture. Mike's education is in mechanical engineering. He also received an executive MBA from London Business School.
